Ignition Switch

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.





1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint System (SIR). Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
2. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Air Bags and Seat Belts
3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
4. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Steering Column
5. Securely mount the steering column in a soft-jawed vise.
6. Use the following method in order to remove the ignition switch mounting bolts (1).
6.1. Use a hammer and a chisel in order to create slots on the top of the mounting bolts (1).
6.2. Use a screwdriver in order to remove the mounting bolts (1).
7. Turn the key in the ignition switch to the ON position or to the ACC position.
8. Remove the switch from the steering column.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the steering shaft hole (3) in the center of the steering column housing hole (4).
2. Ensure the key is in the ON position or in the ACC position. Install the ignition switch to the column.
3. Turn the key to the LOCK position.
4. Remove the key from the ignition switch.





5. Align the ignition switch hub (2) with the steering shaft hole (3).
6. Rotate the shaft in order to ensure that the steering shaft locks.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





7. Install the 2 new breakaway head bolts (1) to the ignition switch (2).
- Tighten the breakaway head bolts until the heads break off.
8. Turn the ignition key to the ACC position or to the ON position.
9. Ensure the shaft rotates smoothly.
10. Inspect the lock for proper operation.
11. Remove the steering column from the vise.
12. Install the steering column to the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement.
13. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
14. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
15. Enable the SIR. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
