Transaxle Oil Leak Repair

Perform the following steps in order to correctly repair a leak:
1. Identify the leak.
2. Trace the leak to the leak's source.
3. Determine the cause of the leak.

For example, if the mating surface of a case component is damaged, you will not repair the leak by resealing the case component. The mating surface that is damaged must be repaired or replaced. Before you repair a transaxle oil leak, correct any conditions that may cause the leak. The following conditions may cause a transaxle oil leak:

Important: The SUZUKI 5-speed manual transaxle does not use gaskets in order to seal major case components. Use GM P/N 12346240 or the equivalent as necessary.

^ An excessive fluid level
^ A plugged breather hole
^ Incorrectly torqued fasteners
^ Dirty fastener threads or damaged fastener threads
^ Warped flanges
^ Any mating surfaces that exhibit the following conditions:
- Warping
- Scratches
- Burrs
- Other damage
^ Insufficient amounts or excessive amounts of sealer
^ The component is cracked or porous
^ Incorrect sealant use
^ A damaged seal bore
^ A damaged seal or a worn seal
^ Drive axle surfaces that exhibit the following conditions:
- Scratches
- Nicks
- Other damage
^ Excessive seal wear caused by a loose bearing or caused by a worn bearing
