Rear Compartment Lid Latch Release Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Fold back the carpet and the spare tire cover in order to gain access to the following components:

* The plastic retainers that retain the rear compartment center trim (1)
* The release cable

2. Remove the following components from the vehicle:

* The 9 plastic retainers
* The rear compartment center trim (1)

3. Disconnect the release cable from the rear compartment lid lock striker.




4. Attach a piece of mechanic's wire (1) to the release cable (2) in order to aid in the removal and the installation of the release cable.
5. Remove the following components:

* The 3 plastic retaining clips
* The left side rear sill plate

6. Gently pry the center pillar lower trim panel from the vehicle.
7. Remove the lower rear quarter trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement (Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement) in Interior Trim.
8. Remove the following components from the floor pan:

* The 2 screws
* The release lever

9. Remove the release lever from the vehicle.
10. Disconnect the cable from the vehicle.
11. Remove the mechanic's wire (1) from the release cable (2).
Leave the mechanic's wire in the vehicle in order to aid in the installation.

Installation Procedure




1. Attach the mechanic's wire (1) to the new release cable (2).
2. Guide the release cable into the vehicle with the mechanic's wire.
3. Remove the mechanic's wire (1) from the release cable (2).
4. Connect the release cable to the rear compartment lid lock striker.
5. Install the release lever to the floor pan. Secure the release lever with 2 screws.




6. Install the rear compartment center trim (1) to the vehicle. Secure the trim with the 9 plastic retainers.
7. Install the lower rear quarter trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement (Rear Quarter Trim Panel Replacement) in Interior Trim.
8. Install the center pillar lower trim panel to the vehicle.
9. Install the left side rear sill plate to the vehicle. Secure the plate with the plastic retaining clips.
