Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair
Removal ProcedureCaution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Remove the six clips and the right side splash shield. Use the following procedure in order to remove the air conditioner compressor drive belt (if equipped):
5.1. Release the tensioner pulley.
5.2. Remove the belt from the crankshaft and the compressor pulleys.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Loosen the upper adjusting bolt on the generator mounting bracket.
8. Loosen the lower mounting bolt on the generator mounting bracket.
9. Remove the coolant pump/generator drive belt from the vehicle.
10. Raise the vehicle.
11. Remove the two bolts that secure the flywheel inspection cover.
12. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.
13. Lock the crankshaft, for vehicles with a manual transaxle, by accessing the flywheel through the square hole (1) as shown.
14. Lock the crankshaft, for vehicles with an automatic transmission, by locking the flywheel (1) as shown.
Important: If the engine is in the vehicle, the crankshaft timing sprocket bolt (2) must be removed. The crankshaft timing pulley can then be removed. It is not necessary to loosen the crankshaft timing sprocket bolt at the center, if the engine is out of the vehicle.
15. Remove the five crankshaft timing pulley bolts (3) and the crankshaft timing pulley (1) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the crankshaft timing pulley (1). Fit the keyway on the pulley to the key on the crankshaft timing sprocket.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Secure the five crankshaft timing pulley bolts (3) and/or the crankshaft timing sprocket bolt (2) (if removed).
^ Tighten the crankshaft timing pulley bolts to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the crankshaft timing sprocket bolt to 130 Nm (94 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the coolant pump/generator drive belt to the following:
^ The crankshaft pulley
^ The coolant pump pulley
^ The generator pulley
