Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Disconnect the vacuum hose (2) from the fuel-pressure regulator
4. Disconnect the fuel return hose (3) from the fuel-pressure regulator (1).




5. Remove the 2 bolts from the fuel-pressure regulator to the fuel rail. Use a shop towel in order to catch any remaining fuel.
6. Remove the fuel-pressure regulator (1) from the fuel rail (2).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Apply a thin coat of oil to the new O-ring (1).
2. Install the new O-ring (1) on the fuel-pressure regulator.




3. Install the fuel-pressure regulator (1) to the fuel rail (2).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Secure the fuel-pressure regulator to the fuel rail with the 2 bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 8-12 N.m (71-106 lb in).




5. Connect the fuel return hose (3) to the fuel-pressure regulator (1), and secure the hose with the clamp.
6. Connect the vacuum hose (2) to the fuel-pressure regulator (1).
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
8. Turn on the ignition in order to pressurize the fuel system.
9. Turn off the ignition.
10. Find and repair any fuel leaks as necessary.
