Throttle Body Assembly Replacement (SFI)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

NOTE: Do not place the following components in a solvent or cleaner bath:
^ The Throttle Position (TP) sensor
^ The Idle Air Control (IAC) valve
^ Any other components containing rubber or electrical parts

Do not soak the throttle body with these components attached. Keep the soaking time in the cleaner to a minimum if the throttle body requires cleaning. Follow these instructions in order to avoid damage to the throttle body unit and component parts.

1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
2. Remove the bolt (1) and the air inlet duct resonator from the intake plenum.
3. Disconnect the breather hose from the valve cover (2).
4. Disconnect the air inlet duct from the throttle body (3).

5. Rotate the throttle lever to the wide open throttle position.
6. Remove the accelerator cable end from the slot (1) in the throttle lever.

7. Disconnect the IAC valve electrical connector (3).
8. Disconnect the TP sensor electrical connector (4).
9. Disconnect the 2 coolant hoses (2) from the IAC valve (1) coolant fittings.

10. Remove the 2 nuts and the 2 bolts that attach the throttle body to the intake plenum.
11. Remove the throttle body (1) and the gasket (2).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Install the throttle body (1) and a new gasket (2) to the intake plenum.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Secure the throttle body with the bolts and with the nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts and the nuts to 18-23 N.m (13.5-17 lb ft).

3. Connect the 2 coolant hoses (2) to the IAC valve (1) coolant fittings.
4. Connect the IAC valve electrical connector (3).
5. Connect the TP sensor electrical connector (4).

6. Rotate the throttle lever to the wide open throttle position.
7. Install the accelerator cable end into the slot (1) in the throttle lever.

8. Connect the air inlet duct to the throttle body, and secure the duct with the clamp (3).
9. Connect the breather hose to the valve cover (2).
10. Install the air inlet duct resonator to the intake plenum, and secure the duct with the bolt (1).
11. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
