Front Wheel Hub Removal Procedure^ Tools Required
- J 34866 Wheel Hub Remover

- J38424 Hub Race Puller Pilot
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
3. Remove the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement in Brakes and Traction Control.
4. Unstake the washer for the drive axle.
5. Remove the nut and the washer from the drive axle.
6. Use 2 wheel nuts (1), the J 34866, and the J 2619-01 in order to remove the hub and the outer bearing race from the knuckle.
7. If necessary, remove the outer bearing race from the hub. Use the J 22912-01, the J 38424, and a press.
Wheel Hub Installation Procedure

- J 36050 Wheel Hub Race Installer
1. Apply a light coat of lubricant to the outside of the hub shaft. Use GM Wheel Bearing Grease, GM P/N 1051344, or the equivalent.
2. If necessary, install the outer bearing race (1) to the hub (2). Use the J 36050 and a press.
3. Use the following procedure in order to install the hub and the outer bearing race to the knuckle:
3.1. Place a block of wood on the end of the hub in order to absorb the shock from a hammer.
3.2. Use a hammer in order to tap the hub and the outer bearing race into the knuckle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the washer and the nut to the drive axle.
^ Tighten the nut to 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs.).
5. Stake the washer in order to secure the nut.
6. Install the brake rotor, the caliper carrier, and the caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement in Brakes and Traction Control.
7. Install the tire and wheel assembly (11). Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
8. Lower the vehicle.
Wheel Bearing Removal Procedure

- J 41392 Front Hub Support /Inner Seal Installer
- J 7079-2 Non-Threaded Driver Handle
- J 41391 Tie Rod End Remover
- J22912-01 Bearing Puller
- J 38424 Hub Race Puller Pilot
1. Remove the knuckle from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement.
2. Remove the inner bearing oil seal and the outer bearing oil seal from the knuckle (1). Use the J 26941 and the J 2619-01.
3. Remove the inner race and the bearing from the knuckle.
4. Remove the snap ring from the outboard side of the knuckle.
5. Remove the outer bearing from the knuckle.
6. Remove the outer bearing race from the hub. Use the J 22912-01, the J 38424, and a press.
7. Use the J 41392 in order to support the knuckle..
8. Remove the bearing from the knuckle. Use the J 7079-2 and the J 41391.
9. Inspect the inner oil seal and the outer bearing oil seal for the following conditions:
^ Wear
^ Damage
^ Deterioration
^ Failure
10. It any of these conditions exist, replace the seals.
11. Inspect the bearings for the following conditions:
^ Wear
^ Corrosion
^ Contamination from water
^ Contamination from dirt
12. If any of these conditions exist, replace the bearing.
Wheel Bearing Installation Procedure

- J 7079-2 Driver Handle
- J 41392 Front Hub Support/Inner Seal Installer
- J 36050 Wheel Hub Race Installer
1. Use the J 41392 in order to support the knuckle.
2. Install the outer bearing to the knuckle (1). Use the J 39722 and the J 7079-2.
3. Install the snap ring to the outboard side of the knuckle.
4. Install the inner bearing and the race to the knuckle.
5. Install the outer bearing race (1) to the wheel hub (2). Use the J 36050 and a press.
6. Apply a lubricant to the lip of the inner oil seal. Use GM Wheel Bearing Grease, GM P/N 1051344, or the equivalent.
7. If the vehicle has ABS, align the hole in the seal with the hole in the knuckle for the wheel speed sensor.
8. Install the inner oil seal (1) to the inboard side of the knuckle. Use the J 41392 and the J 7079-2.
9. Install the outer oil seal (1) to the outboard side of the knuckle. Use the J 39722 and the J 7079-2.
10. Install the knuckle to the vehicle. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement.
