Clutch Spin Down Time
Identify the condition and probable cause before attempting to repair the following components for any reason other than mechanical failure:^ The clutch
^ The transaxle
^ Related linkages
The following shifting conditions reveal clutch and manual transaxle failures:
^ Excessive shifting effort
^ Gear clash
^ Gear grinding
If any of the above conditions exist, perform the following inspection and adjustment procedures before disassembling the clutch and/or transaxle for repairs:
^ Allow the engine to run at a normal idle under the following conditions:
- The transaxle is in the NEUTRAL position.
- The clutch is engaged.
^ Depress the clutch pedal in order to disengage the clutch.
^ Wait approximately nine seconds.
^ Shift the transaxle into the REVERSE position.
^ Inspect the clutch for engagement if a grinding noise exists.
