Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Front
Removal ProcedureCaution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management.
3. Remove the throttle body duct.
4. Remove the exhaust crossover heat shield.
5. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Cooling System.
6. Remove the crossover pipe at the exhaust manifold.
7. Remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat housing. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement in Cooling System.
8. Disconnect the ignition wires from the front spark plugs and position aside.
9. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield fasteners.
10. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.
11. Remove the exhaust manifold nuts.
12. Remove the exhaust manifold from the bottom of the vehicle.
13. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.
14. Clean the mating surfaces at the cylinder head and at the exhaust manifold.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the exhaust manifold gasket.
2. Install the exhaust manifold.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the exhaust manifold nuts.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts to 16 Nm (12 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
5. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
6. Install the crossover pipe to the exhaust manifolds.
7. Install the crossover heat shield.
8. Install the heater bypass tubes.
9. Install the upper radiator hose. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement in Cooling System.
10. Connect the ignition wire to the front spark plugs.
11. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
