Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
- Air bag deployment
- Personal injury
- Unnecessary SIR system repairs
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
- Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
- If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System Service and Repair.
2. Remove the end caps.
3. Remove the sound insulators.
4. Remove the instrument panel compartment.
5. Remove the passenger inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement .Service and Repair
6. Remove the tilt steering lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement Service and Repair.
7. Remove the upper and the lower steering column covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
8. Remove the hazard warning switch. Refer to Hazard Warning Switch Replacement Service and Repair.
9. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate.
10. Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement Service and Repair.
11. Remove the driver inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement Service and Repair.
12. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement Service and Repair.
13. Remove the multifunction lever. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Lever Replacement Service and Repair.
14. Remove the accessory trim plate.
15. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement. Service and Repair
16. Remove the cup holder. Refer to Front Floor Console Cup Holder Replacement Service and Repair.
17. Remove the gearshift handle.
18. Remove the gearshift trim plate. Refer to Console Trim Plate Replacement Service and Repair.
19. Remove the console. Refer to Console Replacement Service and Repair.
20. Remove the ignition switch bolts.
21. Remove the instrument panel upper bolt covers.
22. Disconnect the electrical connections from the electrical junction box.
23. Remove the fog lamp switch.
24. Remove the windshield side upper garnish molding. Refer to Upper Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement Service and Repair.






25. Loosen the center console.

Pull the console rearward in order to disengage the console from the instrument panel (1).

26. Remove the screws (2,3,4) connecting the instrument panel (1) to the tie bar (6).
27. Remove the instrument panel (1) from the tie bar (6).

Installation Procedure






Important: When installing the instrumental panel carrier to the vehicle, ensure that the cowl seal is seated properly to the cowl. Failure to do so may cause a vibration rattle between the carrier and the cowl.

1. Install the instrument panel (1) to the tie bar (6).
2. Install the screws (2,3,4) connecting the instrument panel (1) to the tie bar (6).
3. Install the windshield side upper garnish molding. Refer to Upper Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement Service and Repair.
4. Install the fog lamp switch.
5. Install the electrical connectors junction box.
6. Install the instrument panel upper bolt covers.
7. Install the ignition switch bolts.
8. Install the gearshift trim plate. Refer to Console Trim Plate Replacement Service and Repair.
9. Install the gearshift handle.
10. Install the cup holder. Refer to Front Floor Console Cup Holder Replacement Service and Repair.
11. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement Service and Repair.
12. Install the accessory trim plate.
13. Install the multifunction switch. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Lever Replacement Service and Repair.
14. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement Service and Repair.
15. Install the driver inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement Service and Repair.
16. Install the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement Service and Repair.
17. Install the instrument panel cluster trim plate.
18. Install the hazard warning switch. Refer to Hazard Warning Switch Replacement Service and Repair.
19. Install the steering column upper and lower covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
20. Install the tilt steering lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement Service and Repair.
21. Install the passenger inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement Service and Repair.
22. Install the compartment.
23. Install the sound insulators.
24. Install the end caps.
25. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System Service and Repair.
