SIR Steering Wheel Module Coil

Disassembly Procedure

- Tools Required
- J 41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture

Notice: When the column is removed from the vehicle, actions such as a sharp blow on the end of the steering shaft or shift lever, leaning on the column assembly, or dropping the assembly could shear or loosen the plastic fasteners that maintain column rigidity.

1. Place J 41352 onto a vise.
2. Place the steering column onto J 41352 when you remove the steering column from the vehicle. Steering Column





3. Remove the retaining ring (1).





4. Remove the SIR coil assembly (2).
5. Remove the wave washer (1).
6. Cut the tie strap which secures the coil download wires to the tilt housing.
7. Set aside the black wire spacer.

Assembly Procedure





1. To install the SIR coil assembly, center the following components:
- Center the wheels straight ahead.
- Center the SIR coil assembly.
- Center the race and upper shaft assembly.
- Center the block tooth and the centering mark on the race and upper shaft assembly (1) at the 12 o'clock position.





Important: Do not depress the tab (1) on the back of the SIR coil assembly.

2. Center the SIR coil assembly. The new SIR coil assembly will be precentered.
3. Pull the tab and remove.





4. Install the wave washer (1).
5. Align the SIR coil assembly (2) with the shaft assembly.
6. Install the SIR coil assembly (2) to the shaft assembly.
7. Secure the coil downlead wires to the tilt housing with the tie wrap and the black wire spacer.





8. Install the retaining ring (1).
9. Pull the orange tab and remove.
10. Install the inflator module
