Console - Rear Cup Holder Broken Mounting Tabs

Broken Mounting Tabs on Console Rear Seat Cupholder
(Replace Rear Console Housing)

Models:
1999-2000 Pontiac Grand Am

Condition

Some customers may comment that the mounting tabs that hold the rear seat cupholder to the rear of the floor console are broken.
Correction

Replace the floor console rear cupholder housing using the following procedure.

1. Remove the rear seat cupholder from the console rear housing.

Important:
It is not necessary to remove the floor console from the vehicle to remove and install the rivets in the next steps.

2. Open the console cover and remove the three screws attaching the console cover to the console.

Important:
Removing the two screws in the next step allows for easier removal and installation of the rear console housing.

3. Remove the rubber mat from the bottom of the storage compartment and remove the two screws attaching the rear of the console to the floor.

4. Remove the rear seat cupholder from the rear of the console.





5. Drill out and remove the three rivets securing the console rear housing to the floor console and remove the housing.

6. Remove any rivet mandrels and shavings.

7. Position the new housing to the rear of the floor console and secure with three new rivets.

8. Install the rear seat cupholder to the console rear housing.

9. Install the two screws in the bottom of the storage compartment.

Tighten

Tighten the screws to 7 Nm (61 lb in).

10. Install the rubber mat in the bottom of the storage compartment.

11. Install the console cover to the console and install the three screws.

Tighten

Tighten the screws to 2 Nm (18 lb in).
