FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS/HUB

Removal Procedure

Tools Required
^ J 28733-B Front Hub Spindle Remover

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.





3. Disconnect the wheel speed electrical connector (2).





4. Remove the ABS sensor from the mounting bracket.
5. Remove the caliper and mounting bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Front in Brakes and Traction Control.
6. Remove the rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Front in Brakes and Traction Control.

Important: Do NOT remove the nut at this time. Failure to follow the proper removal sequence may cause permanent bearing damage.

7. Loosen the drive axle shaft nut one turn. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement (Left) or Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement (Right) in Axle Shaft Assembly, Constant Velocity Type under Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints.





8. Use the J 28733-B in order to push the axle splines back out of the hub/bearing.

Important: Protect the axle seals (boots) from damage during handling.





9. Remove and DISCARD the hub/bearing to knuckle attaching bolts.
10. Remove the hub/bearing.
11. Inspect all components for wear or damage.

Installation Procedure





1. Install NEW knuckle to hub/bearing attaching bolts.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten the wheel bearing/hub bolts to 130 Nm (96 ft. lbs.).
2. Install the wheel drive axle nut. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement (Left) or Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement (Right) in Axle Shaft Assembly, Constant Velocity Type under Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints..
3. Install the rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Front in Brakes and Traction Control.
4. Install the brake caliper and mounting bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Front in Brakes and Traction Control.





5. Properly position the ABS sensor to the mounting bracket.





6. Connect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector (2).
7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
8. Lower the vehicle.
