PCM Replacement/Programming

POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

NOTE:
^ In order to prevent internal damage to the PCM, the ignition must be OFF when disconnecting or reconnecting the PCM connector.
Service of the PCM should normally consist of either replacement of the PCM, EEPROM re-programming.
If the diagnostic procedures call for the PCM to be replaced, the PCM should be checked first to see if it is the correct part. DTC P0601 indicates the EEPROM programming has malfunctioned. When DTC P0601 is obtained, re-program the EEPROM.
Service of the PCM should normally consist of either replacement of the PCM or EEPROM programming. If the diagnostic procedures call for the PCM to be replaced, PCM should be checked first to see if it is the correct part. If it is, remove the faulty PCM and install the new service PCM.
^ Turn the ignition OFF when installing or removing the PCM connectors and disconnecting or reconnecting the power to the PCM (battery cable, PCM pigtail, PCM fuse, jumper cables, etc.) in order to prevent internal PCM damage.
THE SERVICE PCM EEPROM WILL NOT BE PROGRAMMED. DTC P0602 indicates the EEPROM is not programmed or has malfunctioned.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative battery.
2. Disconnect the IAT sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove the 3 bolts from the inner fender brace and remove the brace.
4. Loosen the clamps securing the air intake duct/MAF sensor to the air cleaner housing and throttle body.
5. Carefully remove the air intake duct/MAF sensor from the throttle body and air cleaner housing (1).
6. Remove the 2 screws (2) from the 2 air cleaner housing sections.
7. Remove the air cleaner housing cover assembly.
8. Without disconnecting the PCM connectors, remove the PCM (4) and harness from the PCM housing (3).
9. Disconnect the PCM connectors.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: If a new PCM is being installed, program the EEPROM. Programming and Relearning

1. Reconnect the PCM connectors.
2. Carefully reinstall the PCM (4) and harness into the PCM housing (3).
3. Reinstall the air cleaner housing cover assembly (1).
4. Reinstall the 2 screws from the 2 air cleaner housing sections.
5. Carefully reinstall the air intake duct to the throttle body and air cleaner housing.
6. Tighten the clamp securing the air intake duct to the air cleaner housing.
7. Position the inner fender brace and reinstall the 3 bolts.
