Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble

Disassembly Procedure

Tools Required
- J 23653-SIR Lock Plate Compressor
- J 42137 Lock Plate Compressor Adapter

Important: Let the SIR coil assembly hang freely after removal.

1. Remove the SIR coil assembly. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil - Disassemble - Off Vehicle.





2. Remove the wave washer (1) from the steering shaft assembly (2).





3. Compress the shaft lock shield assembly (2) using J 23653-SIR and J 42137.
4. Remove the bearing retainer (1) from the steering shaft assembly.
5. Dispose of the bearing retainer.
6. Remove J 23653-SIR and J 42137 from the steering shaft assembly.





7. Remove the shaft lock shield assembly (5) from the steering shaft assembly.
8. Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) from the steering shaft assembly.
9. Remove the upper bearing spring (3) from the steering shaft assembly.
10. Remove the upper bearing inner race seat (2) from the steering shaft assembly.
11. Remove the inner race (1) from the steering shaft assembly.
