Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators Diagnosis
Diagnostic Chart:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION,
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) performs a diagnostic self-test when the ignition switch is turned on. If the IPC senses a malfunction, this DTC will be stored.
CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING THE DTC
The ignition switch is turned on.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
Any of the following conditions will set this DTC:
^ The IPC part number does not match the part number stored in the body control module (BCM) memory.
^ The IPC make (Pontiac, Chevrolet) does not match the make stored in the BCM memory.
^ The IPC vehicle identification number (VIN) does not match the VIN stored in the BCM memory.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN DTC SETS
The SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicators will illuminate if possible.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
^ A current DTC B1001 will clear when a properly operating IPC is installed.
^ A history DTC will clear if the condition is no longer present after 100 ignition cycles with no current DTCs within the 100 ignition cycles.
TEST DESCRIPTION
The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.
3. If DTC B1001 is set as current, replace the instrument cluster.
