Compressor Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDUREIMPORTANT: When replacing a failed compressor it will be necessary to inspect the expansion (orifice) tube for material build up. Clean or replace the expansion tube as necessary.
1. Recover the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the drive belt.
3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
4. Remove the right front wheelhouse splash shield.
5. Disconnect the compressor clutch electrical connector.
6. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the compressor.
7. Remove the compressor bolts (2) and (4).
8. Remove the compressor (3).
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
IMPORTANT: When servicing or replacing the compressor, drain and measure the oil from the compressor.
1. Drain and measure the oil in the removed compressor, if replacing the compressor.
2. Refill the new compressor with the proper amount of NEW oil. Refer to Refrigerant Oil Distribution.
3. Install the compressor (3) to the compressor mounting bracket (1).
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
4. Install the compressor mounting bolts (4) and (2).
Tighten
4.1. Tighten the front compressor mounting bolts (4) to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).
4.2. Tighten the rear compressor mounting bolt (2) to 65 N.m (48 lb ft).
5. Install the compressor hose assembly to the compressor.
6. Connect the clutch electrical connector.
7. Install the right front wheelhouse splash shield.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Install the drive belt.
10. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
11. Perform a leak test. Refer to Leak Testing.
12. Test the system operation.
