Instrument Panel Retainer Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
2. Remove the left closeout/insulator panel.
3. Remove the right closeout/insulator panel.
4. Remove the defroster grille.
5. Remove the instrument panel (IP) outer trim covers.
6. Remove the IP cluster trim plate bezel.
7. Remove the IP cluster.
8. Remove the IP upper trim pad.
9. Remove the head up display module (HUD).
10. Remove the fastener (3) securing the HUD bracket (1) to the HVAC cross car duct (2).
11. Remove the radio.
12. Disconnect the theft deterrent module electrical connector.
13. Remove the HVAC programmer.
14. Remove the knee bolster.
15. Remove the fasteners securing the steering column to the IP carrier, lower and position the column out of the way.
16. Remove the center console, if equipped.
17. Remove the IP storage compartment.
18. Remove the hazard warning lamp switch.
19. Remove the fasteners securing the IP retainer to the IP carrier.
20. Disconnect the two main wire harness connectors at the top of the IP.
21. Disconnect the flat wire harness connector from the tab on the IP carrier.
22. Feed the DIC wire through the opening in the IP retainer
23. Disconnect the radio antenna extension cable (1) from the radio cavity by sliding the cable connection upwards out of the retainer (2).
24. Feed the IP storage compartment wiring through the IP retainer.
25. Remove the air temperature sensors from the HVAC ducts by turning 1/4 turn counterclockwise.
26. Disconnect the fog lamp switch electrical connector.
27. Remove the ignition lock cylinder.
28. Remove the fasteners (1) securing the ignition switch (2) to the IP retainer.
29. Remove the IP retainer from the carrier.
30. If the IP retainer is to be replaced, transfer all remaining components.
Installation Procedure
1. Align the instrument panel (IP) retainer to the IP carrier.
2. Feed the electrical connectors through the openings in the IP retainer.
* Antenna extension cable
* DIC
* IP storage compartment
* Fog lamps
* Theft deterrent module
* Air temperature sensors
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the fasteners to secure the IP retainer to the IP carrier.
Tighten the fasteners to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
4. Install the fastener (3) securing the HUD bracket (1) to the HVAC cross car duct (2).
Tighten the fastener (3) to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
5. Connect the theft deterrent electrical connector.
6. Connect the DIC electrical connector.
7. Connect the fog lamp electrical connector.
8. Install the IP storage compartment.
9. Install the center console, if equipped.
10. Install the steering column.
11. Install the ignition switch.
12. Install the ignition switch lock cylinder.
13. Install the knee bolster.
14. Install the radio.
15. Install the HVAC programmer.
16. Install the IP upper trim pad.
17. Install the IP cluster.
18. Install the IP outer trim covers.
19. Install the left closeout/insulator panel.
20. Install the right closeout/insulator panel.
21. Install the defroster grille.
22. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
