Throttle Body Assembly Replacement (VIN K)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Drain the radiator coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
3. Remove the fuel injector sight shield.

4. Remove the electrical connector (2) from the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor (1).

5. Remove the air cleaner intake duct from the throttle body.

6. Remove the electrical connector from the idle air control (IAC) valve.

7. Remove the electrical connector from the Throttle Position (TP) sensor.

8. Remove the electrical connector from the mass airflow (MAF) sensor.

9. Remove the cruise control cable (1) from the accelerator controls bracket (2).

10. Remove the accelerator control cable (1) from the accelerator control bracket (2).

11. Remove the cruise control cable (2) from the throttle body lever (3).

12. Remove the accelerator control cable (2) from the throttle body lever (3).

13. Remove the electrical harness retainer clip (1) from the accelerator control cable bracket (3).

14. Remove the vacuum hoses from the throttle body. Note the location of the hoses.

15. Remove the nut (2) from the air injection pipe (1), if applicable.
16. Remove the exhaust crossover.

17. Remove the bolts from the throttle body support bracket.

18. Remove the 3 nuts and the studs retaining the throttle body to the intake manifold.

NOTE: Do not use solvent of any type when cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as damage to the gasket surfaces and throttle body assembly may result.

Use care in cleaning the gasket surfaces on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly, as sharp tools may damage the gasket surfaces.

19. Clean the gasket surface on the intake manifold and the throttle body assembly.
Remove the throttle body assembly from the intake manifold.

20. Remove the accelerator controls bracket from the throttle body if the throttle body is being replaced.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

1. Install the accelerator controls bracket to the throttle body, if necessary.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

2. Install the new gasket, and new inserts and studs if necessary.
3. Install the throttle body assembly.
4. Install the throttle body retaining nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 10 N.m (89 lb in)

5. Install the throttle body support bracket to the throttle body.

Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 10 N.m (7 lb ft).

6. Install the exhaust crossover.
7. Install the air injection pipe (1) to the throttle body.

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (7 lb ft).

8. Install the accelerator control cable (1) to the accelerator controls bracket (2) at the throttle body.

9. Install the cruise control cable (1) to the accelerator controls bracket at the throttle body (2).

IMPORTANT: The throttle should operate freely and without binding between the full-closed and the wide-open throttle positions.

10. Install the accelerator control to the throttle body lever.

11. Install the cruise control cable (2) to the throttle body lever (3).

12. Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
13. Install the electrical harness retainer clip (1) and the harness to the accelerator control cable bracket (3).

14. Install the vacuum hoses to the throttle body as noted during the removal.

15. Install the air cleaner intake duct to the throttle body and air cleaner assembly.

Tighten
Tighten the clamp to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

16. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the IAT sensor (1).
17. Refill the radiator in order to replace lost coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Cooling System.
18. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
