Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair

Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement

^ Tools Required
- J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter

Removal Procedure
1. Remove the valve rocker arm covers. Refer the following procedures:
^ Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left
^ Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right





2. Remove the valve rocker arm bolts (1).
3. Remove the valve rocker arms (2).





4. Remove the valve rocker arm retainer (1).





5. Remove the pushrods (1).

Installation Procedure

Important: When installing valve rocker arms and pushrods, coat the pushrods with prelube GM P/N 12345501 or equivalent. Reinstall the rocker arms and pushrods in the same locations from which they were removed.





1. Install the pushrods (1).





2. Install the valve rocker arm retainer (1).





3. Install the valve rocker arms (2).
4. Apply thread lock adhesive GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent to the rocker arm bolt threads before installing.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the valve rocker arm bolts (1).
Tighten the valve rocker arm bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.). Use the J 36660-A in order to torque the bolts an additional 90 degrees.
6. Install the valve rocker arm covers.
