Cylinder Head Replacement - Left

- J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter

Removal Procedure

1. Drain the engine coolant.
2. Remove the lower intake manifold.
3. Remove the left exhaust manifold.
4. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods.





5. Remove the left cylinder head bolts (1).
6. Remove the left cylinder head (2).





7. Remove the left cylinder head gasket (1).
8. Disassemble the left cylinder head.

Installation Procedure

1. Assemble the cylinder head.

Important: The arrow on the gasket must point to the front of the engine. Failure to install the gasket properly will cause gasket failure and possible engine failure.





2. Install a new left cylinder head gasket (1) to the alignment pins (2).





3. Install the left cylinder head (2).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





4. Torque the cylinder head bolts following the given sequence.
5. Install the cylinder head bolts.
Tighten the cylinder head bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) in sequence shown. Use the J 36660-A to torque the cylinder head bolts an additional 120 degrees.
6. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods.
7. Install the left exhaust manifold.
8. Install the lower intake manifold.
9. Refill the engine coolant.
10. Change the engine oil and filter.
