Oil Pan: Service and Repair
Oil Pan ReplacementRemoval Procedure
1. Install the engine support fixture to the engine.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Drain the engine oil.
5. Remove the right side engine mount (2) to cradle bolts (1).
6. Remove exhaust crossover.
7. Remove the right side shock absorber lower mounting bolts.
8. Remove the intermediate steering shaft bolt from the rack and pinion.
9. Support the crossmember with suitable support.
10. Disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector (1).
Notice: Remove the oil level sensor, located in the oil pan, before the oil pan is removed. The sensor may be damaged if the oil pan is removed first.
11. Remove the oil level sensor from the oil pan.
12. Remove the starter motor.
13. Remove the right front crossmember bolts.
14. Remove left engine mount through bolt.
15. Loosen left crossmember bolts 2 turns.
16. Lower vehicle and raise the engine with the engine support fixture.
17. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
18. Adjust crossmember to gain access to the oil pan.
19. Remove the oil pan bolts (1).
20. Hold the oil pan gasket against the engine block while removing the oil pan.
21. Lower the rear of the oil pan while rotating the pan outward.
Remove the oil pan (2).
22. Remove the oil pan gasket.
23. Clean the oil pan gasket mating surface.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the oil pan gasket.
2. Install the oil pan (2).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the oil pan bolts (1).
Tighten the oil pan bolts to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the right crossmember bolts.
^ Tighten the 2 upper right crossmember bolts to 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the lower right crossmember bolt to 145 Nm (107 ft. lbs.).
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Lower the engine with the engine support fixture.
7. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
8. Install the left engine mount through bolt.
9. Install the starter motor.
10. Install the oil level sensor to the oil pan.
Tighten the oil level sensor to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
11. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector (1).
12. Remove the support from the crossmember.
13. Install the intermediate steering shaft from the rack and pinion.
Tighten the intermediate shaft bolt to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
14. Install the right side shock absorber lower mounting bolts.
Tighten the shock bolts to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.).
15. Install the right side engine mount (2) to cradle bolts (1).
Tighten the right side engine mount to cradle bolts (1) to 58 Nm (43 ft. lbs.).
16. Lower the vehicle.
17. Remove the engine support fixture.
18. Connect the negative battery cable.
19. Change the engine oil and filter.
