Rear
Disc Brake Hardware Replacement RearRemoval Procedure
Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Failure to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove tire and wheel assembly.
3. Using a c-clamp installed to the center of the outer disc brake pad and the back of the caliper, slowly compress the caliper piston into its bore just enough to remove the caliper from the mounting bracket
Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from it's mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.
4. Remove the brake caliper from the mounting bracket and support the brake caliper (2) with heavy mechanic's wire (1), or equivalent; do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement- Rear.
5. Remove the brake pads (2) from the brake caliper bracket (3).
6. Remove the brake pad retainers (1) from the brake caliper bracket (3).
7. Remove the brake caliper bolt boots from the caliper mounting bracket.
8. Lightly wire brush all brake pad contact areas in order to remove any corrosion.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the caliper pin boots (4) to the disc brake caliper mounting bracket.
2. Lubricate the caliper pins (5) with high temperature silicone lubricant.
3. Install the caliper pins to the disc brake caliper mounting bracket (3).
4. Install the brake pad retainers (1) to the caliper bracket.
5. Install the brake pads (2) to the caliper bracket.
6. Install the disc brake caliper to the mounting bracket.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
7. Install the disc brake caliper bolts.
- Tighten the disc brake caliper bolts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.)
8. Install tires and wheels.
9. Lower vehicle.
10. Apply and release the brake pedal (3/4 stroke) as many times as necessary in order to obtain a firm brake pedal.
