Rear Axle-Disassemble

Important: It is not necessary to remove the rear axle assembly for overhaul of the rear axle components. Overhaul of the components can be done on the vehicle. If replacing the rear axle housing, remove the rear axle assembly from the vehicle and overhaul the assembly on the bench.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting
2. Support the rear axle with an adjustable rifling device.
3. Remove the rear torque arm.





4. Remove the propeller shaft (2) from the vehicle.





5. Remove the rear axle cover and gasket from housing.





6. Remove the axle shafts (4).





7. Remove the differential case from housing (7).
8. Remove the differential drive pinion gear and bearing races from housing.
