Frame Replacement (Automatic Transmission)
Removal Procedure
1. Install the engine support fixture.
2. Support the radiator with mechanics wire or equivalent. Secure the wire to the upper radiator support or the engine support fixture.
3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies.
5. Remove the front fender liners.
6. Remove the lower radiator support.
7. Disconnect the antilock brake system (ABS) sensors from the wheel speed sensors and the frame.
8. Remove the ball joints from the steering knuckles.
9. Remove the brake modulator assembly bracket from the frame.
10. Remove the stabilizer links from the stabilizer shaft.
11. Remove the front transmission mount bracket bolts.
12. Remove the rear transmission mount bracket bolts.
13. Remove the brake lines from the retainers on the frame.
14. Lower the vehicle until the frame (3) rests on the jackstands.
15. Remove the front frame mounting bolts (4).
16. Remove the rear frame mounting bolts (1).
17. Remove the frame-to-body bolts (2).
18. Raise the vehicle enough to remove the stabilizer shaft insulator clamp bolts on the driver side of the vehicle. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Insulator Replacement in Front Suspension.
19. Rotate the stabilizer shaft to access the steering gear mounting bolts.
20. Remove the steering gear mounting bolts and secure the gear out of the way using mechanics wire or the equivalent. Ensure not to overextend the intermediate shaft.
21. Raise the vehicle off of the frame.
22. Remove the following components if replacing the frame:
* The lower control arms, refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement in Front Suspension.
* The front transmission mount, refer to Transmission Front Mount Replacement in Automatic Transmission.
* The rear transmission mount, refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement in Automatic Transmission.
* The stabilizer shaft, refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement in Front Suspension.
* The lower radiator support panel.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the following components on the frame if removed:
* The lower control arms, refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement in Front Suspension.
* The front transmission mount, refer to Transmission Front Mount Replacement in Automatic Transmission.
* The rear transmission mount, refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement in Automatic Transmission.
* The stabilizer shaft, refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement in Front Suspension.
* The lower radiator support panel.
2. Lower the vehicle to the frame (3), do not position in place.
3. Install the steering gear mounting bolts.
4. Install the stabilizer shaft insulator clamp bolts on the driver side of the vehicle.
5. Install the front frame bolts (4). Hand tighten the bolts.
6. Install the rear frame bolts (1). Hand tighten the bolts.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
7. Install the frame-to-body bolts (2). Hand tighten the bolts.
Tighten the bolts in the following sequence:
* Tighten the rear frame bolts to 100 N.m (73 lb ft) plus 180 degree rotation.
* Tighten the front frame bolts to 100 N.m (73 lb ft) plus 180 degree rotation.
* Tighten the frame-to-body bolts to 100 N.m (73 lb ft) plus 180 degree rotation.
8. Raise the vehicle and remove the frame supports.
9. Install the brake lines to the retainers on the frame.
10. Install the rear transmission mount bracket bolts.
11. Install the front transmission mount bracket bolts.
12. Instal the stabilizer shaft links to the stabilizer shaft.
13. Install the brake modulator assembly bracket to the frame.
14. Install the lower ball joints to the steering knuckles.
15. Install the ABS sensors to the wheel speed sensors and the frame.
16. Install the lower radiator support.
17. Install the front fender liners.
18. Install the tire and wheel assemblies.
19. Lower the vehicle.
20. Remove the engine support fixture.
