Transmission Replacement^ Tools Required
- J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Install J28467-360.
3. Remove the front transmission mount bolts.
4. Remove the front fender liner.
5. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly from the throttle body.
6. Remove the wire harness from the upper transaxle mount bracket.
7. Remove the upper transaxle mount.
8. Remove the shifter cable.
9. Secure the vehicle radiator and condenser to the upper radiator support.
10. Remove the ground cables from the engine block.
11. Disconnect the PNP switch connector.
12. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
13. Support the vehicle with a safety stand.
14. Drain the transaxle.
15. Remove the front suspension crossmember.
16. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies.
17. Remove the following components:
^ The left front inner fender liner.
^ The right front inner fender liner.
18. Remove the lower radiator and condenser support.
19. Remove the front transmission mount bracket bolts and bracket.
20. Remove the front Antilock Brake System (ABS) Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) connectors.
21. Unroute the ABS WSS harness.
22. Remove the brake modulator assembly bolts and the brake modulator assembly.
23. Remove the vehicle speed sensor.
24. Remove the torque converter bolts.
25. Remove the left and right ball joint nuts.
26. Separate the ball joint from the control arm.
27. Remove the drive axles.
28. Remove the front transaxle mount.
29. Remove the ABS module.
30. Separate the tie rod ends from the steering knuckles.
31. Disconnect the power steering pressure line from the rack and pinion.
32. Remove the brake lines from the retainer below the rack and pinion.
33. Remove the steering column pinch bolt and position the intermediate shaft aside.
34. Attach the transaxle case to the support stand.
35. Remove the transaxle-to-engine mount bolts.
36. Remove the transaxle:
36.1. Slide the transaxle away from the engine.
36.2. Carefully lower the support stand.
37. Unroute the ABS WSS harness.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the transaxle:
1.1. Slide the transaxle towards the engine.
1.2. Carefully raise the support stand.
2. Install the transaxle-to-engine mount bolts.
3. Detach the transaxle case from the support stand.
4. Install the steering column pinch bolt and position the intermediate shaft.
5. Install the brake lines from the retainer below the rack and pinion.
6. Connect the power steering pressure line to the rack and pinion.
7. Install the tie rod ends to the steering knuckles.
8. Install the ABS module.
9. Install the front transaxle mount.
10. Install the drive axles.
11. Install the ball joint to the control arm.
12. Install the left and right ball joint nuts.
13. Install the torque converter bolts.
14. Install the vehicle speed sensor.
15. Install the brake modulator assembly bolts and the brake modulator assembly.
16. Install the front Antilock Brake System (ABS) Wheel Speed Sensor (WSS) connectors.
17. Install the front transmission mount bracket bolts and bracket.
18. Install the lower radiator and condenser support.
19. Install the following components:
^ The left front inner fender liner.
^ The right front inner fender liner.
20. Install the front tire and wheel assemblies.
21. Fill the transaxle.
22. Support the vehicle with a safety stand.
23. Lower the vehicle.
24. Connect the PNP switch connector.
25. Install the ground cables from the engine block.
26. Secure the vehicle radiator and condenser to the upper radiator support.
27. Install the shifter cable.
28. Install the upper transaxle mount.
29. Install the wire harness from the upper transaxle mount bracket.
30. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly to the throttle body.
31. Install the splash shield.
32. Install the front transmission mount bolts.
33. Install J 28467-360.
34. Connect the negative battery cable.
