Compressor Replacement

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Electronic Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt.
4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
5. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors (Upper) or Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors (Lower) in Cooling System.
6. Remove the right side engine splash shield.
7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C compressor.
8. Remove and discard the sealing washers.
9. Remove the A/C compressor hose assembly from rear of the A/C compressor.
10. Remove the A/C compressor rear mounting bolts.
11. Remove the A/C compressor front mounting nuts.
12. Remove the A/C compressor.
13. Remove the A/C compressor bracket and the mounting bolts, if necessary.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




1. Install the A/C compressor bracket and the mounting bolts, if necessary.

Tighten
^ Tighten the A/C compressor bracket upper bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
^ Tighten the A/C compressor bracket lower bolt to 80 N.m (59 lb ft).

2. Install the A/C compressor.
3. Install the A/C compressor front nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor nuts to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).

4. Install the A/C compressor rear bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor rear bolts to 31 N.m (23 lb ft).

5. Install the sealing washers.
6. Install the A/C compressor hose assembly to the rear of the A/C compressor.
7. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C compressor.
8. Install the right side engine splash shield.
9. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors (Upper) or Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors (Lower) in Cooling System.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Install the accessory drive belt.
12. Install the air cleaner assembly.
13. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
14. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
