Accelerator Controls Cable Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Remove the injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement (L36) or Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement (L67) in Engine 3.8 L.




2. Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
3. Disconnect the accelerator cable (5) from the accelerator pedal (1).




4. Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs.
5. Push the accelerator cable through the bulkhead.




6. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the retaining clip.




7. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle body lever.




8. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the accelerator controls cable bracket.




9. Remove the accelerator cable from the vehicle and verify routing for installation.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Do not route flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) within 50 mm (2 in) of moving parts unless flexible components can be securely fastened. This is necessary in order to prevent possible interference and damage to the component.

IMPORTANT: The throttle should operate freely, without binding, between full closed and wide open throttle.




1. Install accelerator cable into vehicle using routing verified during removal.




2. Slide the accelerator cable through the bulkhead.
3. Install the snap retainer into the bulkhead.




4. Connect the accelerator cable (5) through the slot in the accelerator pedal lever (1).
5. Seat the snap retainer in the accelerator pedal lever.
6. Check for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Also check for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.




7. Connect the accelerator cable to the throttle body lever.




8. Connect the accelerator cable to the accelerator cable bracket.




9. Install the accelerator cable into the retaining clip.
10. Install the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.




11. Install the injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement (L36) or Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement (L67) in Engine - 3.8 L.
