Condition

Some customers may comment on an "itching," "chirp" or "squeak" type noise coming from the rear of the vehicle while driving.

Cause

This condition may be caused by metal-to-metal contact between the rear compartment lid height adjustment bolt and the rear compartment lid hinge.

Correction

For ANY "chirp" or "squeak" sound that appears to be coming from the rear compartment, rear seat or rear underbody areas of the vehicle, place a piece of ordinary masking tape, or the equivalent, over the head of both deck lid hinge height adjuster bolts and re-test. If the noise is eliminated, follow the bolt replacement procedure listed below. Note that the deck lid hinge height adjuster bolt "chirp" is often experienced during normal static rear door slam.

Replace the rear compartment lid height adjustment bolts using the following procedure:

1. Open the rear compartment lid.

2. Locate the rear compartment lid height adjustment bolt (1) on the left rear compartment lid hinge (2).

3. Measure the distance from the rear compartment lid hinge (2) to the top of the height adjustment bolt head (1) and record the reading.

4. Remove and discard the rear compartment lid height adjustment bolt (1) from the rear compartment lid hinge (2).

5. Apply Medium Strength Threadlocker - Blue, P/N 12345382 (in Canada, use 10953489), and start the installation of the new rear compartment lid height adjustment bolt (1), P/N 11518852, into the rear compartment lid hinge (2).

6. Continue to install the new bolt (1) measuring to the top of the pad on the head of the new bolt (1) to the rear compartment lid hinge (2) to the correct depth that was recorded in Step 3.

7. Repeat Steps 2 through 6 for the right side rear compartment lid hinge height adjustment bolt.

8. Close the rear compartment lid and inspect the height adjustment.

9. Adjust the rear compartment lid if necessary by adjusting the height adjustment bolts in or out.
