Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Manual First Gear

Maximum downhill braking can be attained at speeds below approximately 64 km/h (40 mph), with the selector lever in manual First position. Manual First oil pressure is the same as intermediate 827 kPa (120 psi) because intermediate oil is still present.

Low oil from the manual valve is directed to the 1-2 throttle valve. Low oil pressure and the 1-2 TV spring force will close the 1-2 shift valve at speeds below approximately 64 km/h (40 mph). This allows Low oil to enter the Low First passage, where the Low oil seats the Low First checkball and passes through and orifice to the Low blow off valve. This valve exhausts Low First oil down to 241 kPa (35 psi). The Low First oil is then directed to seat the Low and Reverse checkball, and the oil is directed to the Low and Reverse clutch for a smooth apply.

SUMMARY
The forward clutch is applied. The Low and Reverse clutch is applied. The transmission is in Manual First Gear.
