Fuel Pressure Sensor: Service and Repair
FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR (FPS) REPLACEMENTTOOLS REQUIRED
J 41416 Ultrasonic Leak Detector
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
CAUTION:
^ Natural gas is highly flammable. In order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, keep sparks, flames, and smoking materials away from the vehicle while you perform the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel system service.
^ The Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) system operates at pressures up to 24820 kpa (3600 psi). Relieve the CNG fuel system pressure before servicing CNG fuel system components in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury.
1. Relieve the CNG fuel system pressure. Refer to fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the tank cover.
4. Remove the tank vent boot cover nuts and the cover.
5. Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor (FPS) electrical connector (2).
6. Remove the FPS (1) from the tank valve.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
CAUTION: Natural gas is stored under high pressure. if a leak occurs, the high pressure could cause a personal injury. in order to prevent Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel leaks, always replace the CNG fuel system O-rings during service.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
1. Install the FPS (1) using a new O-ring. Lubricate the O-ring with petroleum jelly or the equivalent.
Tighten
Tighten the FPS to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
2. Connect the FPS electrical connector (2).
3. Connect the HPL power electrical connector.
4. Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 15 N.m (ii lb ft).
5. Start the vehicle. Inspect for CNG fuel leaks at each serviced fitting using the J 41416
6. Install the tank vent boot cover and the nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the tank vent boot cover nuts to 6 N.m (54 lb in).
7. Install the tank cover.
