The 3T40 transmission consists primarily of the following components:
^ A four-element hydraulic torque converter
^ A compound planetary gear set
^ A dual sprocket and drive link assembly
^ Three multiple disc clutch
^ One roller clutch
^ An intermediate band assembly
^ A valve body assembly
^ A vane type oil pump

The electronic components of this unit are as follows:
^ A third clutch pressure switch
^ Torque converter clutch solenoid
^ Park/neutral position switch
^ Vehicle speed sensor assembly
