59. Low and Reverse Clutch Assemble

1. Inspect the backing plate (659) for damage or cracks.
2. Inspect the composition and steel plates (658) for wear or heat stress. Replace the plates if necessary.
3. Inspect the steel waved plates (688) for crack damage.





4. Align the clutch waved plate (688) and the steel clutch plates (658) with the internal splines of the case before you install these plates into the case.





5. Insert one low and reverse selective backing plate (659) into the case (15).
6. Insert the clutch waved plate (688) into the case (15).





7. Apply DEXRON(R)-III automatic transmission fluid to the composition clutch plates (658) before assembly.
8. Insert the clutch plates (658) into the case, starting with a composition plate, then alternating with a steel plate.





9. Insert the remaining steel waved plate (688).
10. Insert the housing retainer ring (650) for the low and reverse clutch into the case.
