Cylinder Head Replacement - Right

^ Tools Required
- J 36660-A Electronic Torque Angle Meter

Removal Procedure
1. Remove the lower intake manifold.
2. Remove the right exhaust manifold.
3. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover.
4. Remove the drive belt tensioner.
5. Remove the valve rocker arm assemblies and the pushrods.





6. Remove the cylinder head bolts. Discard the bolts.
7. Remove the cylinder head.





8. Remove the cylinder head gasket.
9. Clean all of the gasket mating surfaces.
10. Clean and inspect the cylinder head.

Installation Procedure

Notice: This engine uses special torque to yield head bolts. This design bolt requires a special tightening procedure. Failure to follow the given procedure will cause head gasket failure and possible engine damage.

1. Clean the threads in the block. Using the appropriate tap.





2. Install the head gasket with the arrow pointing to the front of the engine.





3. Install the cylinder head.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precaution.





4. Install the new cylinder head bolts.
^ Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence (1 - 8) to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
^ Rotate each bolt 120 degrees in sequence (1 - 8). Use the J 36660-A.
5. Install the valve rocker arm assemblies and the pushrods.
6. Install the drive belt tensioner.
7. Install the right valve rocker arm cover.
8. Install the right exhaust manifold.
9. Install the lower intake manifold.
