Hood Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Open the hood.
Notice: Refer to Liftgate/Hood Assist Rod Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Using a flat bladed tool, pry out the clip (6).
3. Pull the assist rod (7) from the strut stud (1).
4. Remove the hood open assist rod (7) from the strut stud.
5. Remove the hood hinge bolts (3) from the hood hinges (4).
6. Remove the hinge bracket nuts (1) from the hood hinges (4).
7. With help from an assistant, remove the hood (2) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the hood (2) to the vehicle, with an assistant.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the hinge bracket nuts (1) to the hood hinges (4).
Tighten the nuts to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
3. Install the hood hinge bolts (3) to the hood hinges (4).
Tighten the bolts to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).
4. Install the hood open assist rod (7) to the strut stud (1).
5. Close the hood (2) slowly.
6. Inspect the clearance between the following components:
* The hood (2)
* The front fenders
* For Pontiac vehicles only, the headlamp opening doors
7. Inspect the alignment of the hood (3).
8. Adjust the hood as needed. Refer to Hood Adjustment.
