Ignition Relay: Testing and Inspection
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTIONThe ignition relay supplies voltage to the following components:
^ Evaporative emissions (EVAP) system
^ A/C clutch relay
^ Ignition modules/coils
^ Fuel injectors
^ Mass airflow sensor (MAF)
^ Oxygen sensors (O2S)
^ Transmission control solenoids
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
If the IGN relay fails to close:
^ Scan data will be available
^ Vehicle will crank, no start
^ Dash indicator lights will illuminate
TEST DESCRIPTION
Steps 1-7:
Steps 8-11:
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table:
4. This step is testing the relay ground circuit.
5. This step isolates the circuit from the IGN relay. All of the circuits at the relay are good if the test lamp illuminates.
