Bumper: Description and Operation
Bumper and Fascia Description
General Motors passenger vehicle bumpers are designed to withstand a collision into a fixed barrier at 8 km/h (5 mph). After absorbing the energy of the collision, the energy absorbers rebound to 80-90 percent of their original position. The energy absorbing capability of the front and the rear bumper systems is achieved through a honeycomb or a foam type energy absorbing structure in each bumper.
The following bumper fascias are made of urethane:
* The front
* The rear
Urethane withstands minor impact and returns to the original shape.
* The bumper
* The fascia
