Fuel Filler Door Recessed Into Quarter Panel
(Replace Fuel Filler Pocket)

Models:
1999-2002 Chevrolet Cavalier
1999-2002 Pontiac Sunfire

Condition

Some owners may comment on having difficulty opening the fuel filler door due to the door being recessed into the rear quarter panel.

Cause

This condition may occur when the material from which the fuel filler door latch assembly is manufactured relaxes over time and the door is free to migrate inboard. This may result in difficulty in opening the fuel filler door and/or the door having the appearance of not being flush with the rear quarter panel.

Correction





Replace the existing fuel filler pocket with the new component listed in the "Parts Information" table, by vehicle make and model. This new filler door pocket has incorporated into its design a positive fuel door stop. To ensure proper installation, follow the applicable SI 2000 Service Procedure indicated below by vehicle year and model.
