Engine Replacement (Automatic Transmission)

Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the hood.
3. Drain the cooling system.
4. Recover the A/C system.
5. Remove the air inlet duct and resonator assembly.
6. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum line at the intake manifold.

Caution: In order to avoid possible injury or vehicle damage, always replace the accelerator control cable with a NEW cable whenever you remove the engine from the vehicle.
In order to avoid cruise control cable damage, position the cable out of the way while you remove or install the engine. Do not pry or lean against the cruise control cable and do not kink the cable. You must replace a damaged cable.


7. Remove the resonator bracket/fuel rail cover.





8. Remove the accelerator (1) and the cruise control (2) cables from the cable bracket.
9. Disconnect the engine wiring harness from the underhood engine components.
10. Remove the cruise control module.
11. Disconnect the A/C line from the accumulator.
12. Remove the drive belt.Remove the surge tank.
14. Remove power steering pump from the accessory bracket.
15. Remove the upper and the lower radiator hoses.
16. Remove heater hoses from engine.
17. Remove the fuel feed lines at the engine.
18. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
19. Remove the right side wheel and tire assembly.
20. Remove the right engine splash shield.
21. Remove the engine mount strut.





22. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.
23. Remove the starter.
24. Remove the exhaust pipe and hanger from the exhaust manifold.
25. Remove and support the A/C compressor.
26. Remove the A/C compressor bracket.
27. Drain the engine oil.





28. Remove the torque converter bolts.





29. Remove the brace between the transmission and the engine support.





30. Remove the bolts which secure the lower transmission to the engine.
31. Lower the vehicle.
32. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
33. Install the engine lifting device to the engine lifting eyes.





34. Remove the engine mount.





35. Remove the remaining bolts which secure the transmission to the engine.
36. Separate the engine from the transmission and lift the engine from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the engine in the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the upper transmission to engine bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the engine mount.
4. Remove the engine lifting device from the lifting eyes.
5. Remove the jack supporting the transmission.
6. Raise the vehicle.





7. Install the bolts which secure the lower transmission to the engine.
^ Tighten the bolts to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).





8. Install the brace between the lower transmission and the engine.





9. Install the torque converter bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 62 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).
10. Install the A/C compressor bracket.
11. Install the A/C compressor.
12. Install the starter.
13. Install the exhaust pipe and hanger to the exhaust manifold.





14. Install the flywheel Inspection cover.
15. Install the engine mount strut.
16. Install the right engine splash shield.
17. Install the right side wheel and tire assembly.
18. Lower the vehicle.
19. Install the fuel feed lines at the engine.
20. Connect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
21. Install the heater hoses to the engine.
22. Install the surge tank.
23. Install the resonator bracket fuel rail cover.
24. Install power steering pump to the accessory bracket.
25. Install the drive belt.
26. Connect the A/C line to the accumulator.
27. Install the cruise control module.
28. Install the engine wiring harness.

29. Install the accelerator and the cruise control cable.
30. Connect the brake booster vacuum line at the manifold.
31. Install the air inlet duct and resonator assembly.
32. Fill the cooling system.
33. Recharge the A/C system.
34. Install the hood.
35. Connect the battery cable.
36. Start the engine and check for leaks.
37. Inspect all fluid levels.
