Water Pump ReplacementRemoval Procedure
1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Loosen the coolant pump pulley bolts.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt.
4. Remove the coolant pump pulley bolts.
5. Remove the coolant pump pulley.
6. Remove the coolant pump bolts.
7. Remove the coolant pump and the gasket.
8. Completely clean the sealing surfaces of the coolant pump and the engine block.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
1. Using a new gasket, install the coolant pump and the attaching bolts. Coat the bolt threads with pipe sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480), or equivalent.
^ Tighten the coolant pump bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
2. Install the coolant pump pulley and bolts.
^ Tighten the coolant pump pulley bolts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the accessory drive belt.
4. Refill the cooling system.
5. Start the engine. After the engine reaches normal operating temperature, check for coolant leaks.
