Accelerator Controls Cable Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Remove the accelerator cable from the pedal assembly (2).
2. Depress the cable tangs at the bulkhead (1) and push the cable forward toward engine compartment.




3. Remove the cable retaining clip (2).
4. Remove the cable from the push-in clip (1).




5. Remove the cruise control cable, if the vehicle is so equipped.
6. Depress the tangs (1) on the cable and push the cable through the cable bracket (2).
7. Remove the cable (3) from the throttle cam.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Route the cable through the cable bracket (2).
2. Press the cable upward through bracket.
3. Ensure that the cable retainer tangs (1) expand and are properly seated.
4. Install the cruise control cable.




5. Install the cable in the push-in clip (1).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

6. Install the cable retaining clip (2).

Tighten
Tighten the retaining clip to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

7. Route the cable (3) through the Bulkhead.




8. Install the accelerator cable through the slot in the accelerator pedal assembly (2) and snap into place.

IMPORTANT: Flexible components, such as hoses, wires, conduits, etc., must not be routed within 50 mm (2.0 in) of moving parts of the accelerator linkage outboard of the support unless the routing is positively controlled.

9. Inspect for correct opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Ensure that the throttle valve reaches wide open throttle (WOT) position. If the throttle valve does not open properly, inspect for damaged or bent brackets, levers, or other components. Also inspect for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
