Starter Motor: Service and Repair
STARTER MOTOR REPLACEMENT - 1REMOVAL PROCEDURe
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove wiring harness bracket nut from starter bolt.
3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
4. Remove flywheel inspection shield.
5. Remove the electrical connections from starter.
6. Remove the starter bolts and starter.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURe
1. Position the starter to the engine.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the starter bolts.
Tighten
Tighten bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
3. Install the electrical connections to starter.
4. Install flywheel inspection shield.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Install wiring harness bracket nut to starter bolt.
7. Install the negative battery cable.
STARTER MOTOR REPLACEMENT - 2
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors (3, 4) from the starter.
4. Remove the starter bolts.
5. Remove the starter.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURe
1. Install the starter.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the starter bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the starter bolts to 40 N.m (30 lb ft).
3. Connect the electrical connectors (3, 4) to the starter.
Tighten
Tighten the battery terminal nut to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
