(Reroute/Insulate Accelerator Cable)

2002-2003 Chevrolet Cavalier
2002-2003 Pontiac Sunfire
with 2.2L Engine (VIN F - RPO L61)
Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint 37261371 (Chevrolet) and 37261375 (Pontiac)
Condition
Some customers may comment on a rattle from the center of the dash area near the center defrost vent.
Cause
This condition may be due to the accelerator cable making hard contact with the front cowl area, or the accelerator cable may be misrouted.
Correction
Follow the service procedure below to correct this condition.
1. Open the hood.
2. Inspect for the accelerator cable making contact with the cowl.
3. Apply 3M(R) Silencer Strips, P/N 08585, or equivalent to the accelerator cable in order to insulate the cable from the cowl.
4. Inspect the routing of the cruise control cable if equipped with RPO K34. The cruise control cable MUST be routed over the top of the accelerator cable. Refer to Accelerator Controls Cable Replacement (SI Document ID # 829294).
5. Verify that the accelerator cable is properly routed through the control cable bracket on lop of the valve cover.
6. Close the hood.
