Park Brake Pedal Assembly Replacement
Tools Required
J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool
Removal Procedure
The automatic adjustment park brake pedal assembly and the front park brake cable are serviced as a unit.
1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Pull down on the intermediate park brake cable (2) near the park brake connector (1).
3. Remove front park brake cable from the cable connector (1).
4. Using J 37043 remove the park brake cable from the cable support.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Remove left sound insulator panel to access the park brake lever assembly. Refer to Closeout/insulator Panel Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
7. Remove the left carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
8. Pull the carpet back to expose park brake cable.
9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the park brake warning lamp switch.
10. Remove the park brake lever assembly attaching nuts (1,2).
11. Remove the park brake lever and cable assembly from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the park brake lever and cable assembly to the mounting studs.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
2. Install the park brake lever assembly attaching nuts (1,2).
Tighten
Tighten the park brake lever nuts to 24 N.m (18 lb ft).
3. Connect the electrical connector to the park brake warning lamp switch.
4. Install the carpet. Refer to Carpet Replacement - Front in Interior Trim.
5. Install the left carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
6. Install the left sound insulator panel. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel Gages and Console.
7. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
8. Connect the front park brake cable (3) to the park brake cable connector (1) on the Intermediate park brake cable (2).
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. If a new park brake pedal assembly is being installed the cable tension set pin (1) has to be removed.
11. To set the park brake cable tension rotate the cable tension set pin (1)180 degrees and then pull down.
