Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair

Reverse Lockout Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure, In Service Precautions
2. Remove the console trim plate.
3. Remove the I/P accessory trim plate.
4. Remove the instrument panel cluster.
5. Disconnect the reverse lockout cable from the shifter.
6. Remove the reverse lockout cable from the shifter bracket.





7. Remove the ignition switch bolts.
8. Position the ignition switch in the I/P cluster opening.





9. Turn the ignition key to the on position.
10. Use a flat bladed tool to release the lock from the ignition switch.
11. Tie a string to the ignition switch end of the cable.
12. Feed the cable from the I/P and from under the carpet at the shifter location.

Installation Procedure





1. Tie the string to the ignition switch end of the new cable.
2. Use the string to guide the new cable to the original routing position.
3. Remove the string.
4. Install the cable to the ignition switch.
5. Position the ignition switch in the I/P.
6. Install the ignition switch bolts.
7. Install the I/P accessory trim plate.
8. Install the instrument panel cluster.





9. Install the reverse lockout cable to the shifter bracket.
10. Connect the reverse lockout cable to the shifter.
11. Install the console trim plate.
12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure, In Service Precautions
