Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Drain the cooling system.
3. Drain the engine oil.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Remove the lower intake manifold.
6. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods.
7. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe.
8. Remove the right spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
9. Remove the fuel line bracket Bolt stud and bracket.
10. Remove the generator.
11. Remove the right spark plugs.
12. Remove the right exhaust manifold.
13. Remove the right cylinder head bolts.
14. Remove the right cylinder head.
15. Remove the right cylinder head gasket.
16. Clean the following areas:
- The gasket mating surfaces on the cylinder head, cylinder block, and intake manifolds.
- The cylinder block bolt threads.
- The cylinder head bolts.
17. Clean and inspect the cylinder head.
Installation Procedure
1. Install a new right cylinder head gasket.
2. Install the right cylinder head over the locator pins and over the gasket.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the cylinder head bolts.
- Tighten the bolts to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.) in the sequence shown.
- Use the J36660-A in order to tighten the bolts an additional 95 degrees.
4. Install the right exhaust manifold.
5. Install the right spark plugs.
6. Install the generator.
7. Install the fuel line bracket.
8. Install the right spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
9. Install the exhaust crossover pipe.
10. Install the pushrods and valve rocker arms.
11. Install the lower intake manifold.
12. Fill the crankcase with engine oil.
13. Install the fuel line bracket bolt and stud.
- Tighten the bolt and stud to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
14. Fill the cooling system.
15. Inspect for leaks.
