Oil Pan: Service and Repair
Oil Pan Replacement- Tools Required

Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield.
3. Disconnect the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.Remove the air inlet duct from the throttle body.Remove the right and the left engine mount struts.
6. Install the engine support fixture.
7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
8. Remove the right exhaust manifold pipe stud nuts from the catalytic converter.
9. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter.
10. Remove the power steering oil cooler pipe brackets from the frame.
11. Disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
12. Remove the oil level sensor wiring harness bolt and reposition the oil level sensor wiring harness.
13. Remove the Engine mount lower nuts from the engine mount.
14. Lower the vehicle.
15. Use the engine support fixture to raise the engine.
16. Raise the vehicle.
17. Remove the left engine mount bracket bolts from the engine.
18. Remove the right engine mount bracket bolts from the engine.
19. Remove the right stabilizer link.
20. Remove the right ball joint from the steering knuckle.
21. Support the frame with jack stands.
22. Remove the right side frame bolts and loosen the left side frame bolts 5 turns.
23. Using the jack stands lower the frame.
24. Remove the engine mount and the bracket from the frame.
25. Remove the torque converter covers.
Notice: Remove the oil level sensor; located in the oil pan, before the oil pan is removed. The sensor may be damaged if the oil pan is removed first.
26. Remove the oil level sensor.
27. Remove the oil pan bolts.
28. Remove the oil pan.
29. Remove the oil pump pipe screen assembly and the oil pan gasket.
30. Clean the following parts:
- Oil pump screen mating surfaces.
- Oil pan flanges
- Oil pan rail
- Front cover
- Rear main bearing cap
- Threaded holes
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Fastener Notice
Notice: Install the oil level sensor, located in the oil pan, after the oil pan is installed. The sensor may be damaged if the oil level sensor is installed first.
1. Install the oil pan gasket and the oil pump pipe screen assembly.
- Tighten the oil pump pipe screen bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
2. Install the oil pan.
3. Clean the oil pan bolts and apply one drop of thread lock compound GM P/N 12345382 or equivalent to the oil pan bolt threads.
Important: DO NOT overtighten bolts or damage to the oil pan may occur, resulting in an oil leak.
4. Install the oil pan bolts.
- Tighten the oil pan bolts to 14 Nm (125 inch lbs.).
5. Install the oil level sensor.
- Tighten the oil level sensor to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the torque converter covers.
7. Install the engine mount and the bracket to the frame.
8. Using the jack stands raise the frame to the original position.
9. Install the frame bolts.
10. Remove the jack stands.
11. Install the right ball joint to the steering knuckle.
12. Install the right stabilizer link.
13. Install the engine mount bracket to the engine.
14. Loosely install the right engine mount bracket bolts to the engine.
15. Loosely install the left engine mount bracket bolts to the engine.
- Tighten the engine mount bracket bolts to 102 Nm (75 ft. lbs.).
16. Lower the vehicle.
17. Using the engine support fixture lower the engine.
18. Raise the vehicle.
19. Install the engine mount lower nuts to the frame.
- Tighten the engine mount lower nuts to 78 Nm (58 ft. lbs.).
20. Install the oil level sensor wiring harness and the oil level sensor wiring harness bolt to the engine.
- Tighten the oil level sensor wiring harness bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
21. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
22. Install the power steering oil cooler pipe brackets to the frame.
23. Install right exhaust manifold pipe stud nuts to the catalytic converter.
- Tighten the right exhaust manifold pipe stud nuts to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
24. Install the engine oil filter.
25. Lower the vehicle.
26. Remove the engine support fixture.
27. Install the right and left engine mount struts.
28. Install the air inlet duct to the throttle body.
29. Connect the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor electrical connector.
30. Fill the crankcase with engine oil.
31. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
32. Connect the negative battery cable.
33. Inspect for leaks.
34. Measure the wheel alignment.
