Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5.
CAUTION:
- When carrying an undeployed inflator module:
- Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector.
- Make sure the air bag opening points away from you.
- When storing an undeployed inflator module:
- Make sure the air bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests.
- Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment.
- When storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the air bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Lay the column on its side.
- Failure to observe these guidelines may result in personal injury.
1. Remove the I/P trim pad.
2. Remove the air distributor duct.
3. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint I/P module yellow 2-way pigtail connector.
4. Disconnect the yellow 2-way pigtail connector from the inflatable restraint I/P module.

5. Remove the mounting bolts (2) from the inflatable restraint I/P module (1).
6. Remove the inflatable restraint module (1) from the I/P
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Preliminary, Early Release Information:
1. Install the inflatable restraint module (1) to the I/P
2. Install the mounting bolts (2) to the inflatable restraint module.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
3. Connect the yellow 2-way pigtail connector to the inflatable restraint module.
4. Install the CPA to the yellow 2-way pigtail connector on the inflatable restraint module.
5. Install the air distributor duct.
6. Install the I/P trim pad.
7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5.
8. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping.
