Fluid - Transfer Case: Service and Repair
Oil Replacement1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Place a drain pan or suitable container under the transfer case.
3. Remove the transfer case oil level/filler plug (2) from the transfer case.
4. Remove the transfer case drain plug (1) from the transfer case and drain the transfer case oil.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
5. Place the transfer case drain plug into the transfer case.
^ Tighten the transfer case drain plug to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.).
6. Add approximately 0.8 liters (0.85 qts) of 80W-9O GL5 lubricant or equivalent, into the oil level/filler plug hole. The oil level should be even with the bottom of the oil level/filler plug hole.
7. Place the transfer case oil level/filler plug (2) into the transfer case.
^ Tighten the case oil level/filler plug to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.).
8. Lower the vehicle.
