Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid
1. Verify the vehicle is on a level surface.
2. Inspect the fluid level in the reservoir.

3. If the temperature of the fluid is below 75°C (167°F), verify the fluid is above the COLD MIN mark (5).

Notice: Do not hold the steering wheel in the full turn position longer than 5 seconds, as damage to the steering pump may result.

4. With the engine idling at 1,000 RPM or less, turn the steering wheel from stop to stop several times in order to increase the temperature of the fluid to 80°C (176°F).
5. Turn the engine OFF.
6. Verify the fluid level is between the HOT MIN mark (4) and the HOT MAX mark (3).

Important: Use new GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON-III, GM P/N 12378470 (Canadian P/N 10952622), or the equivalent fluid.


7. Adjust the fluid level if necessary.
8. When checking the fluid level after servicing the power steering system, bleed the air from the power steering system.
